Accurec, one of the European pioneers in the battery recycling industry and a leading processor of lithium-ion batteries is expanding into material recovery with focus on lithium.
Accurec has today a capacity to process 4,000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery through a process where the cells first are deactivated in a pyrolysis-process and subsequently turned into black mass. The company is now setting up a hydrometallurgical process to recover lithium as lithium carbonate, a process the company has developed inhouse. The purity rate is claimed to be 99% enabling Accurec to sell the material to lithium producers for further refining.
Over the years Accurec, which has been active in several larger research projects, invested about €20m in various process steps for lithium-ion battery processing.
