Allye Energy, a UK-based energy storage startup has partenred with Synetiq, UK's largest car dismantler for supply of used battery packs from electric vehicles.
Allye Energy has developed a 320 kWh BESS based on four used EV battery packs. Reuters reports that these batteries will be leased to Allye's customers a model we at Circular Energy Storage has been proponents of since our first report in 2017.
The deal is far from significant but in fact quite rare as few car dismantlers have announced public supply contracts. The dilemma for car dismantlers is usually that of the long tail where a large amount of batteries could have higher value if they were better consolidated but has little value piece by piece unless they can be sold back to the automotive market. As Synetiq, which today is part of the car auction giant IAA, is leading the UK market certainly help when it comes to consolidation.
Allye has raised £900K from Elbow Beach Capital and Alpha Future Funds.
