Korean Doosan Recycle Solutions has signed a framework agreement with China’s CNGR, the world’s leading supplier of precursor materials (pCAM). Through the agreement CNGR will supply black mass and black powder to Doosan from which it will recovery lithium carbonate while the mixed metals are returned to CNGR.
Doosan Recycle Solutions utilizes a heat treatment process to extract lithium from scrap powder, followed by a pure water separation method and crystallization technology to produce high-purity lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide. Compared to conventional processes, this chemical-free, eco-friendly method is more cost-effective and achieves lithium purity of 99.5% or highe and lithium recovery rates of 85% or higher.
“Our technology not only ensures a high lithium recovery rate but also results in low impurity levels in the remaining NCM material, making it highly beneficial for CNGR,” said Jaehyuk Choi, CEO of Doosan Recycle Solutions. “This partnership allows both companies to leverage their technologies and strengthen their business competitiveness.”
Doosan Recycle Solutions is set to build a commercial manufacturing facility at the Daegu National Industrial Complex by next year. The company aims to process approximately 3,000 tons of material annually, with lithium recovery operations beginning in 2026.
