The Australian graphite company Ecograf has signed a memorandum of understanding(MoU) with SungEel Hitech in South Korea to evaluate Ecograf's proprietary purification process to recover and re-use high-purity battery carbon anode material from production scrap and black mass from lithium-ion batteries.

Sungeel is one of the world leaders in LIB recycling with a 24,000 tpa hydrometallurgical plant in South Korea and shredding facilities in Malaysia, India, Hungary and soon in state of New York in the United States. While it has become significantly more difficult to import whole cells to South Korea it is still possible to import black mass.
