Fortum, BASF and Norilsk to establish lithium-ion battery recycling in Harjavalta

the Finnish energy and recycling company Fortum has signed a MoU with the German chemical company BASF and Russian mining company Norilsk to estblish a recycling and battery material production in Harjavalta, Finland. Fortum recently acquired their technology partner Crisolteq that helped the energy company to develop the recycling technology which today is used in a 1 tonne/day plant.

BASF and Norilsk has already a strategick cooperation around battery materials in which BASF is using nickel and cobalt from Norilsk's Harjavalta operarion.
