The Korean precursor producer JH Chemical Industry which is majority-owned by cathode producer L&F will enter the battery recycling industry the company has said. The company will initially start it's own pre-processing serving its own mother company but eventually also process end-of-life batteries and invest in material recovery.

The driver for L&F is the US IRA regulations which makes recyclables a valuable material for Korean cathode producers as the material then can help cell and EV makers to qualify for tax credits.

L&F has previously have had a contract with Doosan for recycling of its waste products from the cathode manufacturing process. The cathode maker also has signed an agreement with US-based Redwood Materials to produce cathode materials from recyclables collected and processed by Redwood.
