Retriev Technologies, the pioneer in lithium-ion recycling in North America, will merge with Indiana-based Heritage Group's battery recycling unit Heritage Battery Recycling. The combination creates a very strong unit covering collection, dismantling and processing of not only lithium-ion batteries but also primary lithium and nickel metal hydride batteries.
Retriev is today operating a pre-treatment and hydrometallurgical treatment facility in Lancaster, Ohio and a similar facility in Trail, British Colombia with combined capacity of 4,000 tonnes of lithium/lithium-ion batteries. Heritage has predominately been active on the collection side with several partnerships within the Heritage group which operates a large environmental service business.
KBI's dismantling and remanufacturing unit for EV batteries in Brera, California will be part of the transaction as well.
Both Retriev and Heritage have been active in building the lithium-ion battery value chain with several important partnerships with both material manufacturers and refurbishers of electronics.
The new company wich will operate under the Retriev brand will be headed by Shane Thompson of Heritage, a seasoned executive in the industry with experience from several companies in the value chain, including Retriev's original owner KBI.
