SK Tes, the Singapore-headquartered e-waste and battery recycling specialist, now part of Korean SK Ecoplant, has inaugurated its first full scale pre-processing plant for end-of-life EV batteries in Europe, in the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The plant which has a capacity of 10,000 tonnes will be able to discharge, dismantle and produce black mass from EV batteries with a focus on NMC/NCA chemistries.

Initially the plant occopies 10,000 square meters but the company has the possibility to expand its operation on 40,000 square meters.

Processing of the black mass is today done either in Canada or in South Korea, where the latter market offers more possibilities and not least as the company has close ties to several Korean up- and downstream players.

The plant which still is to be fully commissioned will be an important component in SK Tes upstream activities as provides both operational advantages and confidence among its customers that it can take care of the batteries it collects.
