The Euro-American car maker Stellantis signed in October 2023 an MOU with the French nuclear recycling company Orano on the construction and operation of a recycling plant in Dunkirk, northern France. After one year of cooperation the two parts have now decided to not create the joint venture that was planned.

For Stellantis the decision comes amid a tough situation in the automotive market and with a recent profit warning.

Orano, which have been develoing technology for battery recycling for several years, is however determined to continue and plans to still go ahead with the plant which initially was planned to start operations by the end of 2026. The company has not announced a new date or whether the changed plans will cause any delay.
