
Doosan Enerbility, formerly known as Doosan Heavy Industries, will establish a separate subsidiary for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries. The company, Doosan Recycle Solution, will set up commercial production facility with the aim to start processing about 3,000 tons of materials per year to extract lithium from the second half of 2025. The facility will be be built inside Daegu National Industrial Complex in Daegu, in the North Gyeongsang Province.
Doosan set up a pilot plant for lithium recovery already in 2021 and will contintue to rely on its proprietary technology for the recycling process. For the lithium recovery black mass is heated and lithium is separated distilled water and further extracted to lithium carbonate through crystallization.
