First lithium-ion battery recycling plant in Croatia to start operation in 2023

CIAK Group a company listed on the Zagreb Stock Exchange with activities in both waste management and automotive spare parts has announced that they have finished a first phase in a project aimed at setting up a pre-processing plant for lithium-ion batteries in Croatia.

The company which has more than 100 points of sales in Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is already operating a recycling plant for lead-acid batteries at the same site where the lithium-ion battery recycling plant will be erected. The company has signed a contract with an equipment manufacturer (probably German URT) that will deliver a plant which will produce black mass, aluminium, steel and copper scrap. A likely capacity will be between 1,500 and 3,000 tonnes per year.

The plant which is planned to be commissioned late 2023 will be the first in the Balkan countries. A license holder of Neometal's recycling technology has previously been planning a similar plant in the country but yet there are no updates on this.
