Retriev acquires Battery Solutions – solidifies battery recycling leadership

US-based Retriev Technologies, which recently combined its activities with Heritage Battery Recycling, has acquired the battery sorting and collection company Battery Solutions. The deal likely makes Retriev the largest battery recycling company in the US with significant activities in all battery chemistries and a strong position in lithium-ion.

With its two locations in Mesa, Arizona and Wixon, Michigan, Battery Solutions manages collection, sorts and disassemble batteries from the whole of US. The company has a strong position in both non-automotive lead-acid batteries and mixed dry batteries from portable electronics. The company has also been disassembling EV batteries for more than 8 years. With these activities the company handles one of the most important streams of lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride batteries in North America. Now in combination with Retrievs pre-processing activities in both Canada and the US the group will become one of the most important players in American battery recycling.

Retriev Technologies is backed by the Indiana-based Heritage Group and affiliates, and California-based Kinsbursky Bros International (KBI). Retriev's operations include battery recycling and sorting facilities in Lancaster and Baltimore, Ohio, and Brea, California, as well as Trail, British Columbia. The company has agreements with other Heritage units such as Heritage Crystal Clean through which it has access to over 100,000 customer locations and 108 facility locations across North America. The company has a pre-processing capacity for lithium-ion batteries of around 4,000 tonnes, something about to expand in over the next 12 months.

Battery Solutions brings added processing, sorting, fulfillment, logistics and storage solutions with their 95,000-square-foot facility in Wixom, Michigan, and a 60,000-square-foot facility in Mesa, Arizona.
