Th

e US and Canada-based battery recycler Retriev, partly owned by Kinsbursky Brothers, will partner with the Japanese trading house Marubeni in developing commercial and technical solutions for recycling of lithium-ion batteries.

Today Retriev operate two plants for pre-processing of lithium-ion batteries, in Trail, Canada and in Lancaster, Ohio.

The partnership will focus on developing a circular business model aiming to create a closed-loop solution where materials are brought back into the battery value chain. The companies will also cooperate with a chemical maker with experience with production of cobalt and nickel sulphates, precursors and cathodes for rechargeable batteries.
