Tuoyuan New Energy a maker of lithium polymer cells in Ganzhou will build a battery recycling plant in Hunan with a capadcity of 200,0000 tonnes. The construction will take place in three phases with a first 60,000 tonnes per year to be readied first.

The plant which will include everything from reuse operations to pre-processing and hydrometallurgical processing will be built in the Yongxing Rare and Precious Metal Renewable Resource Utilization Industrial Development Zone in Hunan.

The recycling is expeted to be based on a fairly straight forward hydrometallurgical process with leaching, solvent extraction and selective precipitation of sulphates and lithium carbonate. The reuse operations will both comprise pack disaseembly and production of new battery products based on used batteries. The pre-processing will have both schredding and pyrolysis.

Hunan has for a long time been one of the most expansive regions for battery recycling with several large companies active in the province.
