The German stationary energy storage developer FENECON has inaugurated its new production facility in Iggensbach, Lower Bavaria in Germany. The plant which is a production site for ESS based both on new and used batteries will have a production capacity of 500 large ESS and 30,000 residential ESS per year.

The facility which required an investment of 25MEUR was awarded grants of 1.7MEUR from Bavarian Economic Development Agencey and 4.5MEUR from the EU Innovation Fund.

FENECON is one of the pioneers in stationary energy storage in Germany with a long relationship with BYD which have been providing modules for residential systems. The company was also early in the development of solutions for second life and so called "precycling" of EV batteries building systems in partnerships with Renault and BMW.

The new plant will host system that will used batteries from BMW and potentially other German car makers as well. These systems are primately based on new EV batteries which in many cases becomes availble when vehicle and battery production isn't fully aligned or in the case batteries can be stored as future replacement batteries making place for used batteries in the future. The energy storage systems range from 82 kWh to 1,288 kWh.

The company also announced that it is building a similar production facility in South Carolina as the US market has a surplus of unused electric vehicle batteries and a strong demand for ESS.
