
Together with the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will launch a voluntary Certification of second life batteries. The goal is to improve the efficiency in the market and comes with a raised ambitions for the use of second life batteries.
The certification is part of the "Regulations on Certification and Accreditation" and "Administrative Measures for the Cascade Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles” and will include requirements and national standards for products based on second life batteries need to meet to be included in a certification catalog. A special technical committee will be formed to lead the certification work. Among the proposal is a public national database of certified applications that use second life batteries.
An interesting part of the proposal is that insurance companies should be supported in the work to develop special insurances for for second life products and banks are encouraged to invest in second life projects through green credits and other instruments.
MIIT gave no timeline for when the work is supposed to be finished.
